What to expect when renovating your kitchen

If you’re constantly running out of storage space, or are fed-up with the functionality of your kitchen, you shouldn’t put off fixing your problem because of any renovation anxiety. The fact of the matter is, by using the right kitchen renovation company, you won’t have any reason to be anxious. With QN Designs, you will:

  • Learn about what’s involved in a kitchen renovation and when site works will take place, so you know what to expect

  • Have the disruption to your life kept to a minimum because we will stick to your renovation timeline

  • Have the pleasure of working with some of the friendliest and most professional project managers in the industry

  • Be able to stick to your renovation plans and budget because our process is very easy to follow

1

Choosing your kitchen design

2-5 days

Discuss your kitchen ideas

The first thing for you to do is to get in contact with QN Designs and schedule your free kitchen design consultation. During this consultation, we can work out together what your ideal kitchen layout will look like, showing you examples from our kitchen showroom. Once we have settled on a rough design for your kitchen, we can provide you with an initial quote and rough timeline of the project.

On-site home measure

To help you realise your dream kitchen, we can send out qualified kitchen designers to your home to gather accurate measurements of your kitchen. This will allow us to generate a 3D image plan of your new space which will help you understand what you want from your renovation. With an in-home measurement, we will also be able to provide you with a more accurate quote of all the work that will be involved. This is valued at $199, but is free if you place an order with QN Designs.

Final quote

Once you are happy with your designs and quote, we can sign off on it. This will allow us to move ahead to the next stage in our process, and provide you with a project manager that will keep you in the loop of everything that is going on.

Preparing for your renovation

15-20 days

Manufacturing your kitchen

Once all of your project designs and specifications have been confirmed by you, we will send through all the plans to our in-house workshop in Morley where our qualified cabinet makers get to work fabricating your new kitchen.

The final inspection of your product

Once your cabinets have been assembled, you’ll have an opportunity to come in, view the workmanship, and get a better look and feel of your new kitchen layout. If you’re happy with the final product, we’ll move onto fabricating your stone benchtops.

Repeating the same process above, you’ll be able to view your benchtops, as well as the completed kitchen layout in the workshop, before we start preparing for the installation. This is your last chance to make any final adjustments to your plan and fix any issues with the final products.

Preparing for installation

When you’re happy with the end product, our project manager will then introduce you to the installation team. Your project manager will then create a timeline of your renovation so that the inconvenience of construction is kept to a minimum. We want to make sure the disruption to your home and life is as short as possible.

Let the renovation work begin!

5-10 days

Step 1: Removing everything from your kitchen

The first step of the process is to remove all existing kitchen contents and appliances, and placing them aside, protected and away from dust and debris. Feel free to begin this part of the process on your own. We’ll also take care of any structural or non-structural changes if required.

Step 2: Disconnecting plumbing and electrical

Next, we’ll begin disconnecting all of your plumbing and electricals where necessary to protect your house and ensure a safe working environment. Individual trades will come through for a rough inspection of the area, applying any touch-ups if required.

Step 3: Dismantling your old kitchen

Once everything is disconnected and the kitchen is clear, we can begin dismantling the old kitchen. This step can get messy, and there can be a lot of noise involved, but don’t worry. We promise your kitchen won’t stay this way. Once complete, we’ll arrange for delivery or pick up of your cabinets for installation.

Step 4: Installing your new kitchen

If all major demolition and building work has been completed, we will be able to install your new kitchen cabinets, drawers, appliances and benchtops, in addition to preparation and installation of splashbacks. This is an exciting step because you’ll finally start to see your new kitchen come together.

Step 5: Reconnecting your plumbing and electrical

When we’ve installed most of your kitchen, we can reconnect your plumbing and electrical to make sure it all works, because there won’t be any more significant construction.

Step 6: Applying finishing touches

Now that everything is installed, and the gas and electrical are connected and working, we can go over the kitchen and give it any finishing touches that it needs. Polishing/sealing kitchen benchtop installations and touching up paint jobs, at this stage we make sure everything is spick and span.

Note: New floor coverings will be installed before this stage if your renovation includes new kitchen flooring.

Step 7: Cleaning the mess and handover

Granted you are happy with the quality of work, it’s now time to clean up all the mess and handover your brand new kitchen! Make sure that the functionality and design is what you expected, with all drawers, cabinets and bench spaces accessible and easy-to-use.

Experience your new kitchen

Now that we’re all done with your new kitchen, let’s hand it over. If you’re not happy with your kitchen, now is the time to tell us so that we can quickly fix whatever it is that you might need.

Once you are happy with the kitchen, we’re going to give you all the information you need in order to upkeep, maintain, and use your new space. With your new-found functionality and style, as well as the know-how, your kitchen will be the ultimate hosting area.

The last thing we do is go over some paperwork and your warranty, and when done, it’s all yours!

Note: It’s important to understand that the time frames provided above are average estimations and are largely based on the scope of the project and are subject to individual specifications. Please feel free to contact your project manager with any questions or concerns you may have.
